A prevalent phenomenon in today’s world is the existence of weight loss businesses such as Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. Are these good for the average person? Or, are they a complete waste of money, resulting only in a return to obesity  shortly after stopping with them?

The writer generally believes that one can do for oneself what  Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig can do. Therefore one should simply use one’s own  head without contracting with others. But, that opinion is perhaps too obtuse and unrealistic for the person just starting out on a physically transforming lifestyle.

Making a new year’s resolve to drop fifty pounds, thereby looking great for this year’s upcoming Christmas is hard. It takes a lot of effort to refuse the food you probably love and feel you cannot really live without. It also takes alot of courage to simply do your daily workouts. Simply sticking with it may almost take all of your emotional time and energy.

If that is true for you, you may not be as able to wisely choose what you should eat for energy and tissue repair. Jenny Craig and Weight watchers do a good job of telling you what to do in these areas. They can even send you individual meals if you would like. Having your diet on that kind of cruise control can free your mind to stay on track with your workout routine.

Places like Jenny Craig and Weightwatchers will also encourage you. Largely, this is because your success is the best advertising for them. But it’s also because many of those who work for them have been overweight as well.Consequently, they will know what you are going through and will be able to encourage you in a way that will not damage your pride.

You need nutritional and emotional support of this nature. Too few of us get these from home, where we may even have spouses who are against our weightloss aspirations. Granted, they may not be openly antagonistic, but the threat of a physical transformation may actually cause some resistance in them. That can result in them not helping with the dietary changes that are necessary. Sad to say this may even be the case in spite of  your MD saying that you simply must drop the weight to avoid more serious future problems such as diabetes.

Should you try one of these big chains to help you win the losing game? Yes, if you need them as many of us do. The only warning is that their diets may not be enough if you are also on a strenuous bicycle or running program. In that case you might want to at least tell them beforehand or consider supplementing with controlled amounts of extra calories from things like honey or olive oil.

Simple Ways to Cut Calories

Losing weight is easiest when approached through the tried and true method of watching what you eat and exercising. Although finding time to exercise during the day can be difficult (especially for those who work long hours), cutting excess calories from your diet need not equate to starving yourself. This article will focus on simple ways through which you can trim the calories off of your meal without even realizing it, resulting in a healthier, happier you.

A common habit among many is eating too fast. This is especially true among those who are hungry, and this can be dangerous. When you eat too fast, your stomach won’t signal to your brain that you’re full, allowing you to eat more until you actually feel full. This causes overeating, which causes more calories to be consumed. The best way to combat this is to simply eat slower and chew your food more thoroughly. In between each bite of food, put the fork or spoon down and concentrate on chewing. This will allow you to savor the taste of the food, and will ultimately result in a significant decrease in the amount of calories consumed.

Next is portion control. This requires a modicum of discipline on your part, but is in fact a painless way to prevent overeating. When cooking large amounts of food for yourself, place the food on a smaller plate and then package up the rest immediately. By doing this you’re forcing yourself to eat smaller portions and preventing yourself from returning to the pot for seconds.

Another simple way to cut calories is within the food itself. The next time you go shopping, ask yourself, “Is real butter necessary?” What about regular soda? Or non-light chips or crackers? It is a widely known fact that losing weight is not about cutting calories so much as it is about changing your eating habits. By eschewing white bread in favor of whole wheat, light butter or margarine in favor of real butter, and fat-free milk in favor of whole milk, you can count hundreds of calories out of your daily intake without even noticing it. The difference in taste is virtually indistinguishable, and the lighter fare is often cheaper than their more robust counterparts.

Have you ever eaten a greasy slice of pizza that soaked the paper plate it was on, making it near transparent? A well-known tip to cut out the fat and calories from a tasty slice of pizza is to take a folded paper towel and blot off the grease and oil that collects on the top. Depending on the slice of pizza, once you’re done the paper towel should be dripping with oil and excess calories that served no purpose other than ruining a good pair of pants.

In the end, cutting out extra calories from your diet is certainly not a difficult task. Not only are the alternatives much healthier, but money can be saved due to cutting back on how much of your food you actually eat.

If you are trying to lose weight, eating low calorie snacks instead of fattening ones can make a real difference. Making healthy snack choices, in fact, can be just as important as what you eat for your main meals. This is because many people, often without realizing it, munch on various foods all day long. This can add many unwanted calories to your diet.

There are some things you need to cut out, or at least cut back on if you want to eat healthier snacks. This includes soda, candy, donuts, potato chips and most snacks sold in vending machines. If you buy “healthy” energy bars or energy drinks, be sure to read the ingredients list to see how many calories and how much sugar is used. Sometimes these products are not much healthier or low fat than their “unhealthy” counterparts.

One very obvious fact that is still worth noting is that the more you eat of something, the more calories you are taking in. This is hardly a brilliant scientific discovery, but it’s something that is good to keep in mind no matter what you are eating. There are some foods that are quite healthy but not especially low in calories. Many nuts, for example, such as cashews, walnuts and almonds, are high in protein and healthy fats. These make an excellent snack. However, if you regularly eat large quantities of nuts, you may find it difficult to lose weight. So the verdict on nuts is that if you are trying to lose weight, eat a small quantity of nuts, perhaps in a trail mix that includes dried fruit. If you are not trying to lose weight, then eat as many nuts as you want! This is not meant to be flippant; people who are not overweight still should watch the kind of snacking they do.

Low fat or non-fat yogurt is a great low calorie snack. It can also be eaten at breakfast or lunch. It’s best to start with a plain yogurt and add your own toppings. This way you can control what you put into it. Usually when you buy pre-made mixtures, they are sweeter and higher in calories than they need to be. You can add all kinds of healthy things to yogurt -dried or fresh fruit such as blueberries, peach, goji berries, strawberries, etc. You can also add moderate amounts of a natural sweetener like honey, pure maple syrup, stevia or agave nectar.

If you like potato chips, there are several good substitutes that are healthier and less fattening. These include rice cakes and vegetable chips. If you shop in the natural foods section you can find all kinds of all natural or organic vegetable chips.
Some brands also make low sodium or salt free chips if this is a concern for you.

Salads are good and versatile as snacks. You do have to watch what you put in them. At a salad bar, for example, you often have some fattening choices like potato or macaroni salads and dressings. If you make your own salads you can still make them tasty while skipping the high calorie items. For a dressing, you can use oil and vinegar. If you find that too plain, you can find some healthy dressings or you can make them yourself. The real trick with dressing is to use a small amount. If you do this, in fact, no dressing will be fattening.

These are just a few low calorie snacks you can think about trying. If you make a conscious effort to make healthy snack choices and pay attention to your snacking habits, you can more easily achieve your health and weight loss goals.

We all know that diet and exercise is the key for people that want to lose weight and drop weight now.  But, with all the advertisements for weight loss diets and exercise programs out there, how do you know which one to choose.  How do you know which one is the right one for you?

Exercise does not have to be hard or painful. Times are rough! Okay, maybe that’s a bit over-dramatic. Times are rough for some people, and not so much for others. I suppose overall we currently reside in a pretty wonderful world. However, those who’re constantly struggling with their weight may not see things the same way. In fact, many of these individuals are down-right depressed. Maybe they have difficulty sticking to a diet, or they simply love food a little too much. Well, the cold, harsh truth is that a REAL lose wieght diet consists of routine and will power. You have to adopt proper eating habits and conform to a strict exercise regimen. This is the best route to take if you truly want results. You must stick to the program!

When people mention the phrase “lose wieght diet,” what comes to mind? I generally picture low-fat, low-sugar, low-sodium foods with plenty of nutrients, along with a consistent workout program. And let’s not forget plenty of water and rest. These are the bare essentials folks. These are the key ingredients for any effective lose wieght diet. You must change your eating habits and stay strong. I always hear people say “But what if I work out four days a week and just keep eating like I do?” Hmm, this is unlikely to be effective for someone overweight. You must also change your poor eating habits in order to shed pounds of fat. You may not gain any additional weight since you’re working out routinely, but you may not lose anything either. It’s sort of a stagnant position. My guess is you really want to lose a specific number of pounds. Most people do. Ask them and they’ll tell you. My spouse is a perfect example.
